Curious Arts, a Newcastle and Gateshead based not-for-profit organisation championing and developing LGBTQIA+ arts, artists and audiences have teamed up with various artists, partner organisations, venues and funders to put on a series of events as part of their Curious Summer.

On Tuesday 20th July (7:30pm), Tom Marshman, a practicing artist for 21 years who works across many mediums (including museum audio-tours, theatre & cabaret), shares his latest work in progress, Jenny, in order to gather feedback and to explore a life that we only know about through criminal records.

Jenny brings together research from historians at Newcastle archives, and academics at the University of Bristol, and mixes it up by collaborating with Canadian composer, singer, and musician Jenny Moore, who composed original music as part of the piece.

The work also features a writing collaboration with writer and performer Enxi Chang, and raises questions of how to create a fully formed picture of someone from the past, particularly when LGBTQ+ and working class lives are largely documented through their often brutal encounters with the state.

The event at Gosforth Civic Theatre is free and is followed by a Q&A with the artist. Tickets are available via the Curious Arts website here.
