Born and bred in the small area of Penboyr, Wales, Cate Le Bon was always destined for bigger things. Her debut came in the form of a supporting slot alongside Gruff Rhys in 2007, who realised her potential and took her under his wing. Distinctive in her ability to take the weird and wonderful and turn it into psych folk genius (five albums worth at that), Cate’s eccentricity has cemented her as a truly unique artist with a knack for transforming the nonsensical into magnificence.

Her latest critically acclaimed album Reward was concocted after spending a year in solitude halfway up a mountain, learning to craft furniture by day and writing by the piano come nighttime. The growth within Cate’s music is striking, as she reveals a far more exposed and honest side to her that was difficult to extract in her previous work, yet her buoyant charm is still ever so present. After slipping slowly back into society, Cate is due to embark on a UK tour this summer, making a stop off at The Cluny, Newcastle on Monday 26th August. If an evening of whimsical ditties dedicated to pet deaths and mugs intrigues you, then it is certainly unmissable.
