Reliably informed

The name Julien Barbagallo might not ring any bells straight away, but have a quick scroll through the credits of any Tame Impala album and there he is. You may know him as the French chap responsible for the thrashing drum solo in Half Full Glass of Wine and the iconic Elephant intro but his talents go beyond the realm of Kevin Parker’s band.

After years of singing and performing in English, Barbagallo released Grand Chien, (or Big Dog to you and I) back in 2016. His second LP under his own name, Grand Chien was recorded in his front room, and is sung completely in his mother tongue. Folks in the know have compared his work to the likes of Super Furry Animals, The Flaming Lips, and of course, Tame Impala, but you can decide for yourselves later this month as he brings his psychedelic pop melodies to The Cluny in Newcastle on Thursday 15th February.
