Whilst harping on about gender equality in music may be my proverbial bread and butter, I am fully prepared to be schooled by Balletboyz’ progressive all-male ballet tour-de-force, set to ferociously hit the Northern Stage boards from Friday 22nd-Saturday 23rd March.

With a glowing global reputation for challenging the perception of men in ballet, Balletboyz’ touring show Them & Us features two new brand new works. Set to original scores by world class composers Keaton Henson and Charlotte Harding, this innovative combination is set to surprise and delight audiences with its fresh and contemporary attitude. The first piece, Them, is focused on the individuality of specific dancers in the company, giving us a rare and intimate insight into the unique characters of this diverse cast of athletes through movement. In contrast, complimenting piece Us, choreographed by Award-Winning Christopher Wheeldon, explores human relationships through physical connection, which is at once intense and tender, juxtaposing the mechanical with the emotional.

In trademark Balletboyz style, this cutting edge performance will showcase the explosive, expressive power of ballet, highlighting changing modern attitudes towards this rapidly evolving and exciting art form, and rousing a new generation in its tumultuous wake.
