The Academy of Music and Sound in Gateshead exists to nurture new musical talent, help them develop their skill and craft; and hopefully become part of what is already a very strong music scene here in the North East. That’s the plan, then national and international success is the dream that follows. On Thursday 28th and Friday 29th January, they’re holding a special event and launch party that could inspire those in attendance even further, with talks from some of the major movers and shakers in the music industry.

The first talk is on Thursday 28th January, coming from Bruce Findlay, one time manager of Scottish rock legends Simple Minds, who achieved great commercial success in the 1980s and beyond, he’ll be perfect for the opening glimpse into the industry. He also founded Zoom Records, and is an industry veteran who has worked with many of music’s finest talents. This is followed by a performance from 18 year old singer-songwriter Lily Brooke, the gifted pianist with a rich, soulful voice is a welcome addition to the line-up.

Friday 29th January welcomes Maximo Park‘s Paul Smith. Frontman of one of the region’s most popular bands, he’ll offer up his experiences as a key part of the indie quintet. There’s a further talk from founder of Kitchenware Records and Soul Kitchen Management, Keith Armstrong. Working with acts as varied as The Lighthouse Family and Jake Bugg, there’s yet another fascinating take on another area of the music industry to be heard. Following that, there’s also music from Fletcher Jackson in a packed two days of engaging entertainment.

The Academy of Music and Sound launch event takes place on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th January at Academy of Music and Sound, Gateshead.
