Plenty of bands all over the world like to pledge loyalty to their home scene, but few have ever gone to the extremes that Twist Helix have done. Their Ouseburn album is a testament both to the area and fellow artists that have inspired them, but also a warning shot against encroaching gentrification and the difficulties faced by artists in the modern day. Rather than dry polemic however, Twist Helix are all about delivering laser-precision synth pop bangers designed to have you grinning from ear to ear.

“Newcastle is the opening track taken from our 2018 album Ouseburn, and is an attempt to capture the post-industrial optimism of our home.” The band explain. “From a sleepy intro (dwelling on still post-industrial waters) the track surges forward on a tide of restless energy as the city embraces its new nocturnal identity and the creative life on its riverside.”
