Damian Robinson enjoys a short look back with a band always looking forward in Slow Readers Club

Just announced as one of the support acts for The Cure’s 2026 Manchester appearance, Slow Readers Club continue to be one of the most consistent live acts of the past decade – ironically their live reputation seeming to grow around the time of their 2015 album Cavalcade – the album being celebrated tonight.
Packed out with a crowd who seem to know every word to every song, tonight is clearly the chance for both the band and their fans to celebrate a moment in time – the bands second full album as they started to cement their legacy as writers of strong indie/pop tunes with earworm hooks. Leaning heavily tonight on Cavalcade, the band are in good form as they introduce tracks with short history lessons and give a reference to when certain songs were created or first played. Whether this short tour marks the end of the promotion of recent (2025) album Out Of A Dream, or not remains to be seen but given the band have released five new albums since Cavalcade, and with summer bookings already lining up, you just get the sense that this was a short look back for a band always looking forward.
