Sage Gateshead’s From The Glasshouse series of gigs is an initiative which looks to showcase local, emerging artists in one of the region’s most iconic venues.

The organisers have so far done an excellent job of getting the word out, with the gigs often being livestreamed and largely pay-as-you-feel. This show was a co-pro with BBC Introducing, and featured a sufficiently buzzy line-up.

The venue had filled up nicely by the time opener Eve Cole began her set, and the precocious teenage singer-songwriter set the tone for the evening perfectly. The Peevie Wonders were equally captivating, if slightly more chaotic. Lead guitarist Ben improvised a decent stand-up performance when some of their equipment briefly malfunctioned, and the way the band took this in their stride is a sign of their growing confidence. It also helps when all of your tracks, and particularly debut single Indie Dancefloor Boy, are absolute bangers.

India Arkin was our headliner for the evening, with her performance representing the next step on what is sure to be a rapid ascent. Her undoubted star quality has seen her diary fill up with bookings for the forthcoming summer music festivals, and should you get the chance to hear tracks like 1-4-3 and Sunday live then it’s certainly one you should take.
