Reliably informed

Over the past twelve months, our magazine and website have been brimming with super-talented, creative souls. We’ve asked a few of them to tell us about their 2020 and offer a few tips about great stuff they’ve seen, watched and read.

Here, Hartlepool dream-pop band Marketplace tell us about their 2020…

Sum up 2020 in three words

What skills did you learn in lockdown?

We’ve been really unmotivated to be honest. Reckon we’ve actually lost a few skills.

Your favourite band/artist of the year?

Us. Can we say us? Other than us, probably Mt. Misery.

Your favourite song of the year?

WAP, but the Biffy Clyro version.

Favourite TV show of the year?

We haven’t really watched a lot this year but Four In A Bed and repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond have really got us through. Raymond’s mam critiquing Debra’s lasagne will never not be funny.

Best book you read?

Ross has a book called True Facts That Sound Like Bull**** which is great. He would occasionally read them out to us on the way to gigs. The rest of us don’t read.

Venue you are looking forward to performing at next year?

Any of them, we’re absolutely desperate.

What was your favourite gig/live stream event?

Watching wise, Leopard Rays’ recent livestream gig and Naked Giants doing KEXP were great. We enjoyed playing Not Playing Leeds Fest this year at Base Camp in Boro too.

Any upcoming artists we should keep an eye out for in 2021?

Leopard Rays, Ocean Floor and Mt. Misery. All great and obviously we’re very biased for Hartlepool bands because they’re all so good. There must be something in the water here.

Predictions for 2021?

You almost caught us there! We’re saying nothing on the matter because knowing our luck Hartlepool will sink into the sea. Realistically it can’t be worse than 2020.

And finally, have you got anything in the pipeline for next year?

Yes we absolutely do! New single sometime in February, another one later in the year, a couple of music videos and probably, almost certainly, very likely an EP. Fingers crossed! Oh and maybe a massive sell-out global arena tour.
