Album Review: Cazimi – Something for the Pain

I am ashamed to admit that I haven’t heard of Cazimi before – ashamed because their new album is excellent, and I think everyone should know about it. The threepiece are in top form on their ten track LP Something For The Pain, providing an 80s post punk energy with really sharply written lyrics, and a really dynamic sonic palate.

Something For The Pain has a true organic feel to it – you can tell that Cazimi are an incredible live band – but they pair this energy with polished production that anyone in their right mind could enjoy. The drums are a real focal point on this record, a heartbeat to sustain the effervescent life that is the rest of the instrumentation. Lyrically there are some really clever moments, showcased particularly on songs like 3 Sides (Every Story) and Panacea.

The whole thing feels like a modern classic; fans of The Jesus And Mary Chain and The Stranglers should definitely add this one to their digital shelves. It’s a vastly impressive, timeless 10-track experience – you’d expect nothing less from a local band – and I highly encourage you to take a break from the Christmas music and pop this one in your lugs.
