Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Beth Wilson, I’m from Middlesbrough and my studio is based on Stockton-On-Tees where I have been based since 2022.

What is it you do?
I’m a digital embroidery designer specialising in transforming everyday wardrobe pieces into truly unique works of art through intricate stitching and meticulous attention to detail. My service is entirely bespoke, giving clients the opportunity to be fully involved in the design process—something you won’t find with typical high-street fashion brands.  Whether it’s customising one of my existing designs or collaborating to create something completely original, I work closely with each customer to bring their vision to life. Every project is a creative journey, and no two pieces are ever the same.

How long have you been doing it?
I graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2016 with First Class Honours in Fashion Textiles: Embroidery. Shortly after, I was fortunate to begin my career as a studio assistant at The London Embroidery Studio which gave me incredible experience. In 2018, I made the bold decision to leave that role and slowly begin building my own business from the ground up—starting in a garden shed. During the weekdays, I worked in an office answering phones, while evenings and weekends were dedicated to developing my own body of work. I had just new that I wanted to move back home my hometown, but with limited opportunities for a career in embroidery, I knew I’d have to create my own path in order to continue doing what I love.

Who or what inspires you?
My work is heavily inspired by symmetry—I’m drawn to the balance, structure, and harmony it brings to a design. There’s something really satisfying about creating compositions that feel both intricate and intentional, especially when working digitally, where precision is key. I’m also particularly inspired by florals. I love exploring the organic forms, textures, and combining that softness with the structured beauty of symmetry.

This year, I’m focusing on bringing more meaning and depth into my work. On a recent trip to Brooklyn, I picked up a book called Floriography: The Victorian Language of Flowers, which has become a new source of inspiration. I’m incorporating the symbolism of flowers into my designs, allowing each piece to hold a deeper, more personal narrative. This approach adds a more emotional layer to my practice, offering clients even more sentimental value in the bespoke pieces they invest in.

I kickstarted this new body of work by creating my Love & Romance Dress, which I entered into the National Embroidery Awards 2025—and was honoured to win first place in the Digital category. You can find more information and photos of the piece on my website.

Tell us about your work/music/creative practice.
I’m deeply passionate about the digital precision of my practice—there’s something incredibly exciting about designing artwork digitally within a craft traditionally rooted in handwork. This approach allows for far greater control over the final outcome, enabling consistent reproduction to the highest quality standards. Looking ahead, I’m especially excited to reignite my love for hand embellishment and explore new ways to combine it with the strong reputation I’ve built in digital embroidery and personalised customisation. It’s this fusion of tradition and innovation that continues to inspire the future of my business.

What do you have coming up in the near future?
Looking ahead, I’m focusing on developing my skills in more creative and hands-on ways. I’ll be taking courses in couture hand embroidery and embellishment with Hand & Lock in London—something I’m really excited about. This will not only help me expand my technical abilities and rekindle the passion I had for hand-finishing during university, but also allow me to approach my digital work from a fresh perspective and explore how the two can be seamlessly combined. As this new chapter unfolds, I’d love to host an exhibition to showcase a more refined, luxury couture feel in my work and attract fashion houses seeking an embroidery designer to bring fresh energy and craftsmanship to their collections.
