North East Indie Book Fest returns to Field & Fodder, Bearpark in Durham on Saturday 3rd October, with Crear Publishing founders Karen and Ryan Crear bringing together 20 independent authors for an afternoon celebrating books, reading and the region’s thriving literary scene. Featuring ten guest speakers alongside ten additional authors showcasing their work, the adult-only event aims to champion North East writing talent while encouraging readers to discover new voices across a range of genres.
The festival grew out of the founders’ desire to create more opportunities for independent authors and challenge the idea that the publishing industry revolves around London. Organisers say they were inundated with applications this year, highlighting the strength and diversity of the literary community across the region.
Alongside author talks, visitors can enjoy a welcome drink, charcuterie, cake, a raffle and the chance to meet writers face-to-face, with the event designed to feel accessible and welcoming to avid readers and newcomers alike.
“There is so much talent in the North East and we don’t shout about it nearly enough,” says Karen Crear. “We want to put Northern writers in the spotlight, celebrate what we have here and encourage people to support local authors in exactly the same way we’d encourage them to support any other local independent business.”
Tickets are £10 and available here.
