Mini-festival Women Are Mint aren’t telling you anything you don’t already know with their cracking line-up at Cobalt Studios from Friday 10th-Sunday 12th May. Organiser Martha Hill (herself a pretty mint woman, we hasten to add) says of the festival: “The festival aims to celebrate and showcase women in music, and help towards bridging the gender gap and overcoming the cultural sexism of the music industry.”

Live music will rub shoulders with practical workshops, and with a full weekend ticket costing only £20 (Friday £10, Saturday £12 and Sunday by donation), it’s pocket-friendly too.

Friday’s line-up includes live sets from alt. electro favourites Twist Helix, alt. jazzers Portraits, experimental noise pop artist Me Lost Me – who also spearheads a noise music workshop from 5.30pm – and songwriter Becca James, with DJ Awkward Black Girl providing tunes in between and after the live performances.

Saturday kicks off with a DJ workshop courtesy of Mariam Rezaei, who also spins her magic later in the evening with a live performance, plus there’s shows from Cadi, the inimitable Afro-Latin sounds of Ladies of Midnight Blue, alt. folk popsters Picnic, the superb vocal harmonies and pop melodies of The Cornshed Sisters and poet and songwriter Jolly Abacus.

Sunday’s family friendly day kicks off at 1pm with a yoga class with Shanti Bee, then there’s street food stalls and live music from 3pm courtesy of cellist Ceitidh Mac, songwriter Laurie Shepherd, Holy Moly & The Crackers’ frontwoman Ruth Patterson performs her solo material, and DJ Lady Annabella is on the decks.
