If we took all the West’s political leaders and made a game of Guess Who? based on their facial appearances, we’d be doomed to a very difficult game of trying to discern one white male patriarch from another. Given this bleak scenario, the resurgence of Riot Grrrl seems more needed than ever. Take note, as Leeds’ punk quintet VENUS head back to the region this month with two shows – one at Newcastle’s Head of Steam on Friday 15th and another as part of the Songs From Northern Britain all-dayer at The Georgian Theatre in Stockton on Saturday 16th November – bringing their raw energy and riot grrrl attitude in celebration of the release of their latest single Freaky Friday.

Their heady blend of rock is offset against a swaggering punk attitude which has electrified stages this past year, and seen them quickly gain attention outside of their native Leeds. On their latest single (released on 31st October via Monomyth Records) lead singer Grace Kelly’s impressive vocal acrobatics soar against a pummelling rhythm section and slick guitar lines. VENUS come from a generation intent to deliver an incisive blow to the establishment as their punk rock foremothers, don’t miss out.
