While it’s true that musicians are having to deal with some unwelcome downtime right now, there are still opportunities to broaden their skills. Teesside music charity Tees Music Alliance are providing one such opportunity with a series of four songwriting workshops as part of their Digital Tenderness programme.

The songwriting sessions will take place throughout March, and will pair four musicians up with highly skilled and established songwriters who will work together to bring out the best in each other, and learn tried and tested techniques from some of the region’s most respected musicians. Hosting the sessions are Futureheads main man Barry Hyde (3rd Mar), Cattle & Cane’s Joe Hammill (10th Mar), rap artist Kay Greyson (17th Mar) and multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Jodie Nicholson (24th Mar).

Places are limited to just four musicians per session, which will take place via Zoom. To apply for a place on one of the sessions, musicians based in the Tees Valley are encouraged to email hello@teesmusicalliance.org.uk with their name, age and location, which workshop they’d like to apply for, a short paragraph about why they’d like to take part and a link or attachment to a ‘work in progress’ song. The deadline for applications is Friday 19th February.
