A beguiling quartet of local acts present a laid-back show at Newcastle’s O2 Academy on Friday 20th April, with Tyneside songwriter Simon Taylor leading the charge.

Simon’s smooth Latin-infused sound has waves of warm jazz and funky influences peppered throughout. His most recent release, Like You Do, is a dark tale of unrequited love with a classic rock vibe, backed by the wistful and sunny Rio Dream. Fans can expect to hear new music at the O2 Academy gig, Simon explains. “A big motivation for performing our gig at the O2 Academy was to premiere some new songs that the band has been working on recently. The venue hopefully suits the broader scale that these particular tracks seem to offer, and the line-up should have an interesting twist.”

Joining Simon will be alt. dream pop group Tchotchke and musical collective Aukestra, whose eclectic style is influenced by life on the autistic spectrum. Also completing the bill is songwriter Laurie Shepherd, of whom Simon is a big fan: “Her music is melodic and meditative and gives you time to fully soak it in. She’s a proper artist at a time when there is such an onus on singer-songwriters to be commercial at all costs.”
