This month sees Newcastle’s best comedy club showcase some of the best alternative comedy around, bringing original voices from across the comedy circuit to the city.

Some household names will be performing in the venue’s intimate confines, with particular highlights including comedy stalwart Richard Herring (Friday 11th), the curious and irreverent Paul Foot (Friday 4th), BBC sitcom star Nick Helm (Saturday 5th) and gag king Gary Delaney (Monday 21st). Naturally, some of the most exciting shows come from the lesser known acts; Jonny Pelham’s Off Limits is a poetic, cathartic hour that isn’t for the faint hearted (Sunday 20th); satirist Andy Zaltzman’s razor sharp observations on politics and society skirt around the usual platitudes and embrace an unexpected sort of silliness (Tuesday 8th); Fern Brady is ferocious, articulate and very, very funny (Saturday 12th); the candidly funny Abigoliah Schamaun (Sunday 13th); while Susie McCabe is one of Scottish comedy’s best storytellers (Thursday 3rd).

Local stars include Dave Johns (Tuesday 22nd), Louise Young and Anja Atkinson (Sunday 27th) and compilation shows featuring Jonny Pelham, Sammy Dobson, Louise Young, Joby Mageean, Matt Reed, (Friday 18th & Saturday 19th) and Jason Cook, Anja Atkinson and Nicola Mantalious (Friday 25th).

This is guaranteed to be a set of must-attend shows for the discerning comedy fan.

Newcastle Alternative Comedy Festival takes place at The Stand, Newcastle throughout October
