It’s preview season for stand-up comedians taking shows up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, so there’s lots of chances to see some immensely talented comics deliver the best hour of comedy they can as they hone their new shows. Rising star of North East comedy Lauren Pattison has the added pressure of this being her debut solo performance, and judging by her packed-out Jesterval show, the young comedian is really rising to the challenge. Her show Reet Petite is brought together in a double-header with Scouse stand-up Adam Rowe’s Bittersweet Little Lies at Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre on Tuesday 26th July.

Both shows come from comics in their early twenties, but both show a maturity and a major gift for storytelling through a wry sense of humour. Lauren Pattison has the added twist that finding her feet in adulthood also meant living with an ex-boyfriend in a confused world. Brutally honest, thoughtful, intelligent writing makes for an immensely sharp and watchable performer; she draws on all of that skill to deliver a show that’s personal yet relatable. The addition of Adam Rowe’s laid back persona make for two great shows that’ll really captivate, from two names to really look out for.

Lauren Pattison and Adam Rowe perform at Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle on Tuesday 26th July.
