Reliably informed

As dedicated readers will know, we’re partial to outspoken, socially conscious artists who write absolutely banging tunes, and when it came to choosing a headliner for our Green Room stage at this year’s Stockton Calling we had only one band on our wish-list: North East quintet Komparrison.

Originally comprised of songwriting duo Elise Harrison and Kaitlyn Kempen, the group recently expanded to a five-piece, with Ellie, Jess and Elliott fleshing out their highly infectious indie pop sound. The band possess a canny knack for a catchy tune, writing songs with depth and startling observations to create an essential document of life as a working-class woman in the North East. Their live shows are filled with joyful and danceable anthems, and we can’t wait to see them packing the Green Room in their headline set!

The band are ones to watch out for this year, as they plan to release their debut EP, You Say She’s Satisfied, in the spring, which will be the first vinyl pressing from the new Press On Vinyl plant in Teesside, and a brand new single, And Again, is due to drop on tomorrow (Wednesday 19th January).

The band join a festival line-up which also includes fellow headliners fellow headliners Self Esteem, Bob Vylan, The Pigeon Detectives and The Reytons, with other acts recently confirmed including The Let Go, Courting, Stone, The Zen Arcade, Shambolics, Duck, CVC, Frankie Beetlestone, Cara Rose, English Teacherbigfatbig, Faye Fantarrow, Joe Ramsey, Leopard Rays, Luke Royalty, Michael Gallagher, Moon Wax, Mt. Misery, MXYM, Nel Unlit, Ocean Floor, Pit Pony, Samantha Durnan, Sarah Johnsone, Shore, stebee, The Shakin’ Nightmares, Wax Heart Sodality, We Tibetans and ZELA.

Tickets for Stockton Calling, which takes place on Saturday 16th April across venues in Stockton, are priced at £31 via Dice.
