GIFT (Gateshead International Festival of Theatre) returns this May for a weekend of electrifying performance in the only festival dedicated to contemporary theatre in the North East.

On Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th May, GIFT is showcasing bold contemporary theatre at BALTIC and Caedmon Hall, crossing cultural and interdisciplinary boundaries and bringing audiences and theatre-makers together to think, share and have fun. Committed to breaking down barriers, GIFT is accessible and affordable, combining free activities with ticketed events.

Hosted by Festival Founder & Director Kate Craddock, the festival kicks off with GIFT Goes GLOBAL, a free event which discusses some of the most pressing questions facing festivals today. Also at BALTIC on Friday 3rd, award-winning international artists Bertrand Lesca and Nasi Voutsas perform PALMYRA, an exploration of revenge, the politics of destruction and what we consider to be barbaric.

Saturday 4th is all about PUG at Caedmon Hall. PUG champions artists from both the North East and across the UK, mixing emerging up-and-coming performers alongside more established artists. Grab your chance to work with a PUG artist at the Saturday morning workshop and then on Saturday evening join in the PUG performance club night and a cheeky disco. Showcasing exploratory, fun and politically urgent variety acts from some of the most unique and honest performance artists around, get set for a weekend of comedy, dance, art and all the glorious things in between.
