On Friday 22nd November Newcastle based independent art, event and film production house, Urban & Eastern productions present Firepit Vaudeville, a one-off night of the weirdest and most wonderful entertainment at The Old Coal Yard.

Before we go any further, I had to look up what a Vaudeville was and it might be worth sharing before we carry on. ‘Vaudeville’ is a French theatrical genre of variety entertainment from the end of the 18th Century. Originally it was a comedy without psychological or moral intentions, based on a comical situation: a kind of dramatic composition or light poetry, interspersed with songs or ballets.

Got it? Right, we’ll carry on.

It’s a free entry event and features retro DJ Lady Koo, who’ll be filling the dance floor with an eclectic mix of retro dance tunes from the past decades, and several live acts, including music, comedy & performance art from Jake Wilson Craw, Melody Sproates, Penny Press and Sally Anderson. They describe the night as a type ‘nu-vaudeville’ (nu means ‘new’ by the way) but whatever it is, it looks a tonne of fun and will keep you entertained from 8pm right through until midnight.
