Running from Saturday 9th until Friday 22nd February, a new pop-up salon is set to exhibit the work of Newcastle-based artist Ellen Ranson. Being held at 2 Northumberland Place, North Shields, NE30 1QP and organised by North East art advisory service, Parapluie, this is the first in a series of pop-up salons.

Each of the pop-ups will spotlight emerging, up-and-coming artists in temporary gallery spaces, and this first one is perfect in setting the right tone. The Northumbria University graduate has received much acclaim for her work and is currently the recipient of the Painting Fellowship at the University. She was also the winner of the John Crisp Prize for Innovative work in painting in 2018.

Of her exhibition, Ellen said, “My work aims to perform the arrogance and ego associated with the Abstract Expressionist male painter archetype.”

The chance to drop in and see what some of our region’s most talented creatives can do in the early stage of their careers could be very inspiring, and there’ll be the chance to treat yourself and buy some work from the talent involved. Unique artists in unique spaces have set these pop-up galleries to be something very special indeed.

The Parapluie Pop-Up Salon is open from Saturday 9th to Friday 22nd February (closed Wednesdays), from 12pm to 4pm. Admission is free and works will be available for sale.

Private appointments can be made outside of opening times by emailing [email protected].
