In recent years Barnard castle has really punched above its weight in terms of the comedy talent it brings to the town. That’s thanks to the passion and hard work of comedy promoters Funny Way To Be Comedy who in the past have put on big name acts such as John Bishop, Russell Howard, Omid Djalili, Joe Lycett, Russell Kane, Romesh Ranganathan and Chris Ramsey.

Their latest offering (on Friday 28th June) is BAFTA Award winning comedian and TV and radio star, Andrew Maxwell, who will be bringing his new show Showtime to The Witham, Barnard Castle. The Irish eagle-eyed, current-affairs comic is a recognisable face/voice to many with appearances on BBC Radio 4 (News Quiz, Welcome To Wherever You Are, Public Enemies). He’s been seen on, among others, Live at the Apollo (BBC One), Have I Got News for You (BBC One), Celebrity Juice (ITV2) and Mock the Week (BBC Two); and MTV’s Ex On The Beach.

Showtime received five star review after five star review when it dominated the Edinburgh fringe with a memorable cocktail of personal stories, political observations and the odd foray in character cameos. Now Barnard castle gets to experience this must-see comedy masterpiece, an exciting prospect as Peter Dixon of Funny Way To Be Comedy is keen to point out.

“This show was rearranged from an original date scheduled in May. We were delighted that Andrew was keen to Barnard Castle and he quickly sorted out a new date.  It’s now the final date on his UK tour. Andrew Maxwell is one of the most exciting and engaging comedians I have seen in recent years. I’ve seen him in large venues at the Edinburgh Festival and at Music Festivals where he totally captivates the audience. He attracts five star reviews wherever he goes.  We highly recommend coming along to see it.”

Andrew Maxwell “Showtime” is at The Witham in Barnard Castle on Thursday the 9 May at 7.30pm, and is suitable for anyone aged 14+. Tickets priced £14.00 are available from The Witham Box Office or
