My Inspiration: Northern Hospitality – Goodbye to Shangri-La

Hartlepool rock ‘n’ rollers Northern Hospitality return with a thunderous new track, Goodbye to Shangri-La.

The single, which is ‘a powerful call to rise above adversity’, sees grungy, shoegaze textures wrap around beefy stadium rock guitars and vocals that veer from Gallagher’s snarl to Green Day’s melodic drive. It’s crisply produced and bursts from the speakers with riffs, lifts and grit.

Here, frontman Gaz Price tells us more about what inspired the song…

Over the past few years, our sound has naturally grown bigger, louder, and more visceral. With this new single, it feels like we’ve finally landed exactly where we want to be. It’s the culmination of everything we’ve been building — and we couldn’t be prouder.

We hammered it out in our HQ, then headed back down to Merseyside to record with our producers SugarHouse. As soon as we got the track back, we knew — this one hits Home Hard.

If you know us, you’ll hear the big grunge and punk influences we’ve always carried. We’ve leaned into them more than ever, and it’s helped shape who we are. For me, as a songwriter, there’s something beautifully chaotic about blending heavy music with a poetic, heartfelt message — and this track is no exception.

Lyrically, it’s rooted in a fear I know well: the fear of being stuck. Whether that’s emotionally or physically, in a place that no longer feels like home. It’s about letting go of the version of yourself you thought you had to be, so you can grow into who you’re meant to become.

We’ve played it live twice now — once at Kendal Calling and again at Sunderland Firestation — and it absolutely tore the roof off both times. The energy was unreal.

2025 has been massive for us, and we’re closing it out with our biggest release yet, a Liverpool debut at EBGB’s, and a huge London show with Hot Vox.
