New Town are an emerging alternative band hailing from East Kilbride, Scotland. Made up of David James (vocals), Kieran Smith (guitar), Rob Haggerty (bass), and Euan Mcalonan (drums), they create uplifting indie rock tracks hung around danceable guitar riffs, emotional lyricism and passionate vocals. Following a number of shows across the country – including a support slot at Bobik’s – the indie rock outfit are set to release an anthemic new single, Spark on 25th November.
The band are performing in Newcastle as part of a Scottish Artists Showcase with The Lutras and Moonlight Zoo, hosted by STAGED Live! And LLIVELY Music at Jesmond’s intimate venue, Bobik’s on Saturday 26th November. The anticipation stems from this tour being the first time the band has left Scotland: “Yeah we can’t wait to get across the border – it’s always been a goal and dream of ours to take our music outside our hometown. Hopefully we can pick up some new fans along the way!”
New Town are hitting new towns, guaranteeing a live debut of new single, Spark. The band describes how the track is about being in your early to mid 20s “and realising all your pals are moving on with life. Everyone’s getting proper jobs, getting married; doing grown up stuff and you can’t help but feel a little lost along the way. I think part of it is trying to hold onto memories or your youth, but also longing to be a part of whatever change everyone else is going through – these things happen at their own natural pace, so it’s wrong to long for it I guess.” The track was recorded and produced with Scottish producer Bruce Rintoul, and explored the key hook as a chorus, drawing creative inspiration from Seventeen Going Under by Geordie native Sam Fender.
2023 is planned to kick off with the release of their EP Good Point, Well Made, followed by high profile headline slots in Scotland.
