Following the release of their long-awaited, and critically acclaimed third album, The Ceiling, Birmingham dream-pop group, JAWS are set to out on tour and playing Riverside, Newcastle on Saturday 23rd November. We chat with guitarist/vocalist Connor Schofield to see what’s going on.

How would you describe your sound? Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I guess it falls into the indie spectrum, we don’t like to think about it too much. influence wise its all over the place. right now I’m currently enjoying the new Frank Ocean singles and i,i by Bon Iver.

Could you briefly describe the music-making process?
it’s different every time again, sometimes I’ll write a whole demo, sometimes we’ll piece things together in the practice room.

You released your album, The Ceiling, earlier this year. What are the themes in this album and how is it a progression from previous work?
It deals a lot with self-doubt and how to channel that looming negative energy.

In terms of progression, it’s like with previous records, we have another couple of years under our belts playing together and writing together and learning from each other.

What can people expect from your show at Riverside, Newcastle on 23rd November?
A bloody good laugh, lots of energy.

What have you got planned for 2020?
Honestly, we haven’t thought that far ahead!
