Newcastle rock merchants PØRTERS return with their brand new four-track EP, Motion Without Direction
The EP – from the haunting harmonious drive-time opener Where Are We Going? to the gritty roadhouse rocker The Thrill, to the gospely alt-country ballad The Devil I Know to the punchy, raw ‘n’ ready blast of Recover – bleeds out an enjoyable blend of Fleetwood Mac-esque tones, Southern Gothic sounds and stadium rock riffs.

Royal Blood – Out of the Black
This is one of those songs that packs a punch as soon as it starts. That’s exactly what we wanted to achieve with our debut single ‘Recover’ – we wanted listeners to be engaged right from the opening riff. At the same time, it’s got a looseness to it that gives it character. We liked that rough-around-the-edges quality; it feels honest. That kind of rawness influenced how we approached a few moments on the EP – just playing it how it felt in the room.
Wolf Alice – Moaning Lisa Smile
This track captures the raw energy and attitude we love – fierce guitars, dynamic vocals, and that tasty blend of grunge and alt-rock. We like to experiment with sounds, especially through harmonies, which can really end up portraying two different vibes in one song. Wolf Alice do that really well. It’s exactly the kind of sonic punch we aim for in our own tunes: gritty, melodic, and bold.
Muse – Psycho
‘Psycho’ by Muse has this great, no-frills groove that really sticks with you. It’s heavy without being messy, and there’s a cool confidence in how it all comes together – just a solid riff, a tight rhythm, and a vocal that resonates. We’ve always liked that kind of approach. It definitely influenced how we thought about space and weight in our own tracks – letting the parts breathe and do their job without overcomplicating it.
