Reliably informed

We chat to some of our passionate and dedicated team to find out what they thought of 2020…with some occasionally sweary results! Here, Ben Lowes-Smith tells us about his past twelve months.

Sum up 2020 in three words

A fallow field.

Your favourite band/artist of the year?

What is new music without context? I’m not really sure. I’ve been listening to lots of African rock and psych music because its positively transportive when you feel a bit trapped. Bab L’Bluz are a band from Morocco, I like them a great deal.

Favourite TV show of the year?

I have watched a lot of television this year. I’m not sure I like it anymore.

Best book you read?

The Idiot by Elif Batuman – a really fantastic bildungsroman that I suppose is really about the failure of language. beautifully detailed prose washes over you at the expense of any real narrative coherency, but that’s sometimes the way I like it.

What was your favourite gig/live stream event?

Julian Cope at the Riverside in February. Feels like a lifetime ago.

Predictions for 2021?

A gradual trundle to some form of normalcy. Some bumps along the road.
