Stockton bar and performance space The LINK (adjoining the newly renovated Stockton Globe) is looking for local talent for its monthly open mic night. The event is hosted by experienced musicians and supports local, home-grown talent, with a variety of grassroots performers showcasing their music.

The next open mic takes place on Friday 16th June. Artists interested in participating can simply email info@thelinkstockton.co.uk and book a slot, there are also limited walk-in spaces available on the night. Performers get the chance to perform for 15 minutes in an inviting, well-equipped space before a live audience.

Here, senior technician at Stockton Globe and The LINK, Callum Rattray, tells us what his dream open mic would look like…

My dream gig night would be as far away from civilisation as possible, in a secluded forest surrounded by festoon lighting and fire pits. A starry sky above. There would be a Navajo vibe, with the musky smells of incense. There would be card games and people dancing (not me) and having fun. Soothing indie folk filled with harmonies and ragtime sounds would be the soundtrack to the evening. The likes of boygenius, pairing with The Staves, First Aid Kit with Laura Marling and Father John Misty, all backed with a band and a string quartet. Going through the deepest cuts of their discographies, playing songs that take people by surprise in the best possible way. Followed by an all-request period where you can pick and choose collaborators and the songs they perform.

Food would be provided from the pizza oven with all the toppings you could dream of, and an endless supply of chips (definitely a pizza topping). As a non-drinker, an infinite supply of tea, with just the right amount of milk and at the perfect drinking temperature would be my drink choice. Joined with a buffet of a wide range of biscuits, to go with the unlimited tea. For the drinkers, an unlimited bar filled with any drink they would like – I want everyone to be happy at this open mic! Finally, there would be a photobooth with unlimited photos for everyone to take as many pictures as they would like, cementing memories of the night (and new passport photos if they needed them – practical!).
