If we could all monetise our personality defects to the same level as Nish Kumar, the economy would be thriving.
The veteran comedian returned to Tyne Theatre & Opera House on a chilly Thursday evening for an impressively near sold-out midweek show. Nish kicked things into a gear with an immediate 25 minute C-bomb-fuelled tirade against/sardonic appreciation of the former government’s South Asian representation.
Being able to finally see himself, i.e. a self-proclaimed c*** of British Asian heritage, in the highest seat of power this country has, forced Nish to have a little introspection. What kind of a person lets anxiety rule their every waking moment? Why does that same person, constantly steeped in self-doubt, refuse to listen to professional advice until it’s too late? Nish Kumar, that’s who. But Nish has learnt to accept himself, even if that means picking a fight with “unnamed” British comedians, billionaires and the Tory party until he’s blacklisted from all Channel 4 panel shows and/or the Houses of Parliament.
He may be loud, perpetually obnoxious, and living in a constant state of fear, but it makes for a cracking stand-up set – with no vibes lost.
