Forget any pop-punk connections, Pinkshift’s album screams its way into a new wave of nu-metal. Vocalist Ashrita Kumar delivers an angry statement as they are sometimes literally shrieking with their disappointment in the current world order. The heavy sound that guitarist Paul Vallejo and drummer Myron Houngbedji wrap around those lyrics would not have been out of place on any rock club dancefloor in the early 00s.
The big crushing sound may be the stuff of mosh pits in a live setting, but as an album to listen to elsewhere, it goes for a power move. Lyrically political, this is a release that is not afraid to make a statement.
