Emily Ingram discovers cyclical, recurring beats, water-based sampling and dreamy vocals on Panda Bear’s new release
Domino
Released: 08.02.19
Picture this: you’ve booked a remote island getaway, and are wandering up and down the beach. Your pockets are stuffed full of sand, shells and things that have washed up on the shore. You’re not certain where your sandals went – oh, and you’ve taken a hefty dose of hallucinogens.
This image is the essence of Panda Bear’s Buoys – a trip through cyclical, recurring beats, water-based sampling and dreamy vocals that never make much sense. Whilst there are some standout tracks – like the bold, strumming Cranked and vivacious electronic Crescendo – this is pretty much business as usual for Animal Collective noise-maker Noah Lennox. Hardcore AnCo fans will relish this energetic treat, but for those looking for something brand new, prepare to be left disappointed.
