If the quality of Noel Gallagher’s fourth solo outing is any indicator that he might be holding his best work back for an Oasis reunion, then fans of the band will be disappointed as Council Skies continues his inexorable march towards Radio 2 meritocracy.

Musical accoutrements embellish and adorn; a flugelhorn here, an accordion there, and lots of strings. It’s when he doesn’t overthink things that Council Skies often works, so fans of Dead In The Water will enjoy the bare three minutes of Trying To Find A World That’s Been And Gone, while the ballsier Think Of A Number and We’re Gonna Get There In The End will please. That’s not to say there aren’t a few duffers here also, but nobody wants to listen to Digsy’s Dinner again either.
