A damn fine debut release of songwriting and musical craft from Modern Woman, genre-hopping between indie punk and off-kilter folk-tinged rock. Its lyrical theme exposes often unnerving contrasts minuscule yet significant enough to become something bigger, Killing A Dog perfectly reflecting this from its delicate refrains to right up in your face riffs is followed by a delicate flower of a song Daniel, brushed with lamented dread by the violin of David Denyer.

Throughout there is a display of intricate juxtapositions lifting this far beyond a mere debut effort and is indicative of the genuineness of talent and expertise that other headstrong emerging bands could learn from. It’s a grand leap from Sophie Harris’s original ideas that have bloomed thanks to the addition of a full band, allowing multiple layers that both compliment and delightfully jar against each other. I’m waxing on and deservedly so.
