Heavy is the head that wears the crown, or so they say. Knocked Loose’s diadem might just be heavier than most. You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To – the third studio album from the Kentucky natives – is a bruising, pummelling coronation, and one resplendent in its glowering magnificence.

At times, the 27 minutes or so through which it careers and bellows can feel like standing at the bottom of a plague pit as a pyroclastic flow of Tetris pieces hewn from poured concrete and black marble rains down all around you. At others, it is more like clawing for a foothold in the craggy pelt of an ancient colossus as it writhes and rages in the midst of a lightning storm. YWGBYST is, in all of its heft, a brutal, stupefying triumph.
