ALBUM REVIEW: Foxes – The Kick

The Kick is a vibrant collection of positive electronic pop songs from Foxes, whose real name is Louisa Rose Allen. The result is a euphoric call to get out there and dance. A clear message about freedom runs through a set of songs written during a time when restriction meant we had lost such liberty.

For the main part, urgent synths and loops give this release a real sense of energy. Foxes has resisted the urge to over-process the vocals which helps the clarity of the production. There is a real warmth in this release, even when discussing subjects like heartbreak. The final track, Too Much Colour, is a slower affair which adds a nice contrast.
