Robin Webb discovers a heady album of dream-like, hypnotic sounds from the mysterious Ferries

Ferries declare that they are unknowable and their music reflects the intangible mystery of their identity. Rooted in krautrock with dream-like structures and hypnotic dubby goodness, I kind of don’t care about who they are as long as I can drift along and become freaky friends with the music.
I Swear I Left It Right There is typical of the forgetful haze they exist in, like a glitch in the matrix it makes you insist you know but hey you don’t really. Which pill did I take? Eye Wander as a whole is smoke; it’s immaterial, it goes against the modern, it’s psychedelic in every sense, they claim it’s avant garde pop but this never reaches those heady heights, that’s for mere mortals – no, it has surpassed its own headiness and is part of its own universe, no paranoia, no fever dream, it’s a child discovering a path to some form of self-fulfilling enlightenment, encouraging us to Leave Behind those worldly things, because you can’t be controlled.
Screw the hyperbole, it’s a wonderfully trippy affair and I for one thoroughly enjoyed it.
