Liverpool four-piece Circa Waves’ debut album conforms to the familiar indie-rock formula that seems nostalgic now, in 2015. Crooning vocals from Kiera Shudall, sweet sounding, below-the-twelfth-fret guitars from Joe Falconer and allegro, flam drumming with the occasional fill, coming from the sticks man Sian Plummer.

The album has a mixture of tones, from the hyperactive pursuit of the chorus from title-track Young Chasers, to the delicate guitars of Deserve This, which sound like they are from a West Coast doo-wop ballad. The newcomers’ first effort will sound sweet in the T-Shirt Weather this summer.

It is a method of songwriting we have heard numerous times before, but if it isn’t exactly broken, why fix it?
