ALBUM REVIEW: Cabaret Voltaire – But What Time Is It Really?

A career spanning collection of up to date live works recorded during their 50th celebration shows is to be released in anticipation of Cabaret Voltaire’s final ever world tour acting as a retrospective of the genre-defining Sheffield industrialists with a respectful nod to founder member Richard H. Kirk who sadly passed in 2021. It has tracks dating from the late 70s The Set-Up right up to some of their latest material Tinsley Viaduct, which is an adaptation of Chris Watson’s solo installation soundtrack honouring the iconic structure in their home town.

Expect their usual sample strewn dubbed up beats throughout that has influenced probably the entire electronic scene in some way, well respected tunes like Nag Nag Nag, Sensoria, Crackdown, Yashar and a personal fave Sex Money Freaks that was my lead in to the addictive mighty groove of these guys back in 1987. They’ll be in Newcastle at the Boiler Shop in October for the very last time playing it all loud, I’ll be there and you have to be as well!
