As is tradition, Beans on Toast releases an album every year on 1st December. Why? It’s his birthday! It’s a good a reason as any. This year he has released a typical Beans album that is anything but typical. Confused? Let me explain.

His rasping voice is readily identifiable and engaging, but his guitar has vanished. With only a piano as accompaniment, played beautifully by Matt Millership, Beans takes us on a simplistic but complex journey, matching pared-back arrangements with lyrics that dig deep into the meaning of life and our purpose on Earth. The boogie-woogie feeling of The Glorious Fool encourages a much simpler existence, Why? questions everything and Faith in the Moon successfully delivers a positive, anthemic vibe.
