Most acts you go to see will take influence from a few different genres when creating their sound. Hip-hop and jazz, country and blues, pop and rock, these are all tried and tested combinations. What makes Warmduscher so special is their disregard for these conventions. They mix disco and post-punk with hip-hop and krautrock, even some lounge and funk for good measure. The end result; a sort of Frankenstein sound, fantastically gaudy and bizarre.

First on were Irked, a local punk band with some serious teeth and the look to boot. They tore through their set in a blur of leopard print and smudged lipstick, each song was like a shot of adrenaline, pumping up the crowd more and more, never letting up until the final song. This was punk in it’s purest form; ugly, loud and mean.

Warmduscher came on to a huge applause and wasted no time playing the hits. I Got Friends and Midnight Dipper had the whole crowd jumping up and down while Craig Higgins screamed and howled into the mic, his vocals lost in a sea of modulation, cut up and stretched beyond recognition.

They brought it down next with 1000 Whispers, a doo-wop song about lost love, as unsettling as it was tender, the descending guitar lines and haunting backing vocals came together to create a beautiful but eerie ballad.

One thing above all else that I perhaps haven’t said about Warmduscher is that they’re fun, they know how to put on a show and they don’t take themselves too seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy thought provoking and nuanced music, but I also enjoyed watching the guitarist gargle a mouthful of beer and spray it in the air like Triple H.

If you get the chance, go see them, embrace the weird, dance, maybe bring a poncho.
