A fine debut slab of stoner sludge from Druidess with a distinct Sabs vibe full of cavernous riffs and sweet spots taking you sideways into jazz inflected voids even their inspirational geetar ubermeister Tony Iommi would certainly be proud of. It’s deep, it’s heavy, it’s fused with doom-laden organ, expressive sax, thudding beats and lyrics woven together with the spirit of folklore breathed by Shonagh Brown on vocals.

Their unashamed declaration of love for the stylings of the original heavy metal divinities is exemplified by the outstanding A Witches Sabbath with its myriad nuances of light, dark and mischievous folly made me long for my days of discovery back in the 70s as the originators brought our paranoid souls together in the darkness. They aren’t overtly a tribute act, oh no, they can belt it out deliciously in their own inimitable way an approach which is drawing much national interest and is seeing the band invited to loads of psych and such outings.
