Stephen Oliver discovers Dead Pony’s short and sweet new release

Glaswegian outfit Dead Pony follow up their debut album, 2023’s Ignore This, with a six track EP that continues to fuse the poppier end of punk with nu-metal. The track Eat My Dust! fuses these elements together with its relentless rhythm and crushing distorted guitars balanced with the clear siren-like voice of Anna Shields. The energy lifts the track. Freak Like Me picks up where Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory left off. Over the guitars and loops you are left with an anthem with a catchy hook.
This is not a massive departure since the 2023 debut, rather an increase in confidence, both lyrically and musically. There is enough texture in each track to keep the listener hooked. As an EP it is only 20 minutes long but it is a serious stop gap release before the next album – a marker about the potential of the band who want you to take notice and have the potential to succeed.
