Italian singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi delves deeper into the personal for an album that is very pop contemporary. Where her sound has been jazzy or inhabiting rich soundscapes in the past, this collection feels far more anchored in the musical language of now.

Those pop senses are heightened and enriched, even delving into 21st century prog influences in Antarctica. This is a song that is fractured like an ice crystal but glistens rather than freezes. There is an endearingly effortless quality to Marta’s vocals that seem to float out of the speakers. This fits like a glove, or rather a Shoe-Shaped Cloud, in conveying her more surreal dreaming.

Dream Life is like a series of snapshots into Marta’s world, from hyper-reality to outright weird. Marta is inviting us to share her dream life. How can we refuse?
