Lyndon Morgan’s ninth delivers all the usual tales of regret, nostalgia and death, but it’s a slightly darker affair than usual. At least at first. “I’ve grown tired of being me,” laments the title track’s character, a weariness having never sounded so defeated by love’s trials. But “Life is hard enough without the bad reviews,” Morgan cries on the standout Kingdom Come Came & Went, the kind of tale the playwright revels in, of sex, drugs and rock & roll.

The violin rides with the waves on the penultimate The Great Galleon, ensuring the record reaches a sparkling finale as Morgan promises to “tear up the town & turn the no’s to a yes” on Showtime; a life and love rekindled.
