NEWS: Joy Orbison @ NX Newcastle

Joy Orbison is, was and will forever be one of the best DJs in the world. The Croydon native started spinning records at the age of 13, releasing a genre-defining debut single shortly after as Hyph Mngo dropped in 2009. He’s been on a tear ever since, with Boddika’s VIP version of Mercy and BRTHDTT still standing as two of the heaviest tunes ever released. Nowadays, you’re just as likely to hear his records being spun by Skrillex or Fred Again, with his DJ performances being similarly electric.

He touches down in the North East on Friday 11^th October, as Snafu Events take over NX Newcastle. This is fresh off the back of a summer in which he’s kept the dancefloors moving at some of Europe’s most renowned festivals. He’s found a series of second homes at the likes of Houghton, Dekmantel and Lowlands, while still (bizarrely) finding room for a set at The Golden Lion in Todmorden.

Joy O joined the Snafu collective last year for a show with Neffa-T on the banks of the River Wear down in Durham. That relationship has continued to blossom with the help of NX’s hefty booking and production teams, with Joy O set to be joined by Jossy Mitsu and some of the best lighting rigs and sound design in the city. He’ll be armed with a selection of brand new, exclusive bangers, having dropped an incredible edit of Sonder’s What You Heard at Gala Festival this summer. That set was one of this writer’s personal favourites; a journey through the great and the good of UK garage, house and breaks. With the run of form Joy O is on, and the tools NX will give the man to work with, this is not one to be missed.
