Reliably informed

Fern Brady recently told a journalist for The Guardian that after writing her memoir ‘Strong Female Character, estranged members of her family contacted her father to ask him if he was embarrassed by some of the things she wrote about, to which he responded that he was simply proud of her. Well he should be, not just for her book about her autism diagnosis in adulthood or her appearances on mainstream television series Taskmaster and The Great British Bake Off, but for her ability to brilliantly and intricately craft a stand-up routine.

In her new show I Gave You Milk to Drink, Brady weaves seemingly unrelated witticisms and personal accounts together and covers ground such as meeting talking cats while on mushrooms, why she turned down Strictly Come Dancing, meeting Miriam Margolyes while paralysed from Botox injections and her overeagerness to discuss euthanasia with Pru Leith. She does so in such a way that you’d almost think these were topics all easily intertwined, and delivered in her trademark dry demeanour that is charming and magnetic.
