Ben Lowes-Smith talks to Ivor Pop from Darlington’s pre-pop folk band about their novel way of creating music videos
Bubamara are the brainchild of Ivor Pop: a songwriter with an effervescent, internationalist approach to music. Inspired by Pop’s time spent living in a kibbutz and his travels across Europe, Bubamara’s music incorporates klezmer, Anatolian grooves, skiffle, and pre-pop folk music.
The group have kept their creative juices flowing during the lockdown, resulting in the remote completion of a second record and a bunch of thoroughly entertaining music videos. Their new video, Maybe Someday, is a catchy slice of fun from the inventive band, and in the second of our video interview series NARC. X…, I chatted to Ivor about the video and the band’s sound.
