The offbeat singer-songwriter shares two new videos featuring some of the region’s best musical talents
It’s not everyday that you can say that an artist has two exclusive videos to share, so this unveiling of a double whammy of clips from therunningchelsea is a particularly special occasion. As part of David Wala’s High Bridge Sessions, the off-beat singer-songwriter, aka Tom Hollingworth, was asked to perform in an intimate, living room-like setting for the camera. The result is two quirky and intriguing videos featuring not only therunningchelsea himself but also the talents of Kate Edwards, better known as Agerskow, Marc Bird of Yellow Creatures and singer-songwriter Meghann Clancy.
Ground Zero is a particularly melancholy affair, as the quartet stare off into the distance and sing in harmony; the disparity in pitch between the performers’ voices lends it a distinctly haunting edge, made even more so by the fact that the foursome are almost completely statuesque. On LDN Doesn’t Exist, Hollingworth performs solo sitting alongside Edwards, Bird and Clancy, who are engrossed in reading Foam, David Allen’s How To Get Things Done and, ahem, Fuck You Too. Bird handing Hollingworth a kazoo before casually returning to reading is bizarre and surreal; then again, the whole set-up isn’t exactly your usual session video…
