Poised to release his debut album on Friday 4th March, this month’s cover star Paul Jeans, aka The Shooting Of, has shared the video for the album’s title track.

Analogue Heart is a lesson in quirky pop brilliance, something that Paul is fast becoming known for. “Analogue Heart is probably the nearest to a traditional pop song I have written.” He explains. “It’s a little tongue-in-cheek, and lyrically started as a play on Are Friends Electric? By Tubeway Army. It’s about finding it hard to connect with people and being a general outsider in life. Also, I have a great fondness for all things analogue and have a slight distaste for everything being digital now. I have a soft spot for 80’s synth music and there is certainly an influence here, probably due to it being played on a Yamaha DX7.”

The video for Analogue Heart offers a knowing nod to Paul’s ‘one-man band’ set up, and it seems he’s expanding his talents into video making too. “I like to do things myself, not necessarily as a grand artistic control gesture but more because I enjoy the process of learning how to do new things as I go. The video is just me mucking about, it’s a parody of 80’s music TV – I think it’s like what an American Top Of The Pops might have been in the 80’s; maybe not 100% authentic in style and effects, but certainly full of OTT attitude and bad dancing.”

Our tip – watch for the fire and confetti canon.

The Shooting Of plays an instore performance at Pop Recs, Sunderland on Saturday 5th March and launches his album at Newcastle Castle on Friday 18th March.
